Meet Our Spotlight Angel – Nolan

An author once wrote, “Blue eyes up close are a celestial phenomenon.”

When you look into those beautiful blue eyes of our Spotlight Angel Nolan, you can see he is an angel in so many ways.

“Nolan is wonderful. So happy and bright and loving. He is our little miracle boy,” said Sara, Nolan’s mom.

Miracle is right. When Nolan was just five weeks old, he had his first seizure. His parents knew immediately something was wrong. The family’s oldest child Emily, died at just 13 months from the same extremely rare muscular disorder. Nolan is just one of 89 people around the world living with this condition.

“We didn’t think he would make it to his first birthday. We tried to get his seizures under control, including doing therapy four-to-five times a week. We did everything we could to help him,” Sara explained.

Thanks to a great medical team, persistence, and some divine intervention, Nolan stabilized. The family cared for him and his three siblings for several years until eventually realizing it was all too much. That’s when they were introduced to Holy Angels.

When Nolan’s family came for a visit, they immediately knew this was the place for him. They could feel the love and compassion but were told their son could be on the waiting list for years. After one particularly challenging summer trip, their hearts jumped with joy and gratitude when they got the call from Holy Angels that space was available for Nolan.

“We didn’t waiver one bit. We knew this was the right thing for Nolan and our entire family,” said Sara. “This was a godsend.”

At his new Holy Angels home, Nolan was greeted with open arms in September 2019, and his family couldn’t be happier. Nolan is now part of the Holy Angels family where he receives loving round-the-clock care and can thrive and develop to his fullest potential.

“Nolan is the kid he is today because of Holy Angels. It warms my heart every time I see him. His personality is showing now more than ever,” said Nolan’s dad Dan. “Seeing him at the Christmas mass was a Mercy Moment. When he came out and recognized all of us in the front row, it was so very special.”

“We’re so thankful and blessed. Holy Angels is truly an extension of our family. We know everyone there, we hug and send each other pictures,” said Sara. “I don’t know where we would be if we hadn’t found Holy Angels for our sweet blue-eyed miracle.”
