Good Morning America’s “My Kind of Town” puts spotlight on Holy Angels

In August, ABC News’ Will Ganss visited Cherubs Café—a Holy Angels sponsored business in downtown Belmont that enables individuals who are differently able to gain life skills, achieve meaningful work, and build a sense of belonging within the community.

This segment celebrates our residents for their talents, abilities and joy—while highlighting the kindness and welcoming spirit that make Belmont such a special place. This moment was more than just a television feature, it was a celebration of the heart of our mission – our residents and crew members.

In an interview with the Charlotte Observer, Will shared: “The only thing sweeter than the iced tea here at Cherubs Cafe is the community I’ve gotten to know in Belmont. From our very first conversation to this week’s visit, the team at Holy Angels has welcomed me with open arms, sharing their incredible story of service to the community for the last seven decades. The very best part of my job is shining a light on folks like the team at Holy Angels, the residents, and crew members who work at Cherubs. It’s a reminder that sometimes we only need to look down the street to find people who are truly making our community, and our world, and little kinder and a little brighter. I’m grateful to be here in the Charlotte area to witness it.”

During the broadcast, crew members joined the GMA team at Cherubs Café, and the sidewalks outside were lined with friends, neighbors and community supporters. Down the street, Nellie’s hosted a watch party where the excitement was just as strong. From those who gathered outside, to everyone who tuned in from home—thank you for celebrating abilities with us.

WSOC’s Chief Meteorologist John Ahrens was also at Cherubs, capturing behind-the-scenes moments and sharing a heartfelt interview with GMA reporter Will Ganss. You can view that story here:

In his report, John shared, “It really didn’t surprise me at all that GMA was going to do a segment with Holy Angels because they are a treasure - not just to Belmont, not just to Gaston County but all of the Carolinas. Their reach goes beyond Cherubs Cafe featured here - they have an amazing breakfast by the way! Very thankful for the experience and very thankful Holy Angels get the recognition they deserve.”
