A New Goose Has Landed at the Holy Angels Café in McAdenville

goose + co. to host a grand reopening event on Sept. 30

McAdenville, N.C. – Holy Angels has been keeping something under its wing... and it is finally time to meet the new goose!

Spruced Goose Station is now goose + co. – a modernized café experience created by and supporting local nonprofit Holy Angels. While the café has “fresh feathers,” guests can still count on the same great coffee, delicious food and meaningful Holy Angels mission at the heart of it all.

Holy Angels will celebrate the grand reopening of goose + co. at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, alongside the Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce, Gaston Business Association and town of McAdenville. The first 50 customers will receive a goose + co. branded tote bag, and a limited number of coffee coupons will be given away during the event.

The redesigned café features new seating and community games, a fresh look and original artwork created by Holy Angels residents and participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities — all intended to make goose + co. an even more welcoming place to gather.

“We wanted this space and brand to better reflect the sense of community and belonging at the heart of all our sponsored businesses and programs,” said Kerri Massey, Holy Angels president and CEO. “The goose is still part of who we are, but the ‘+ co.’ speaks to what we hope happens here every day. Come for the coffee and great food, but stay for the company — including our crew members, who make this place so special. We want everyone who walks through these doors to feel: You are seen. You are known. You belong.”

Spruced Goose Station first opened at 118 Wesleyan Drive in 2019. The refresh offered Holy Angels an opportunity to reconfigure the café, add new seating and games and find a new home for artwork created by Holy Angels residents and participants.

Earlier this year, Holy Angels closed Bliss Gallery in Belmont and began exploring new ways to share resident artwork with the greater community. Now, the walls of goose + co. serve as a gallery showcasing original pieces created through the organization’s Creative Arts program, where residents and participants develop new skills and express themselves in ways that are uniquely their own.

“Seeing our residents’ art brightening the walls brings new meaning to the space,” Massey said. “Our crew members have always built wonderful relationships here, and now the artwork gives them another way to share their creativity with the community. We hope it will spark connection, start conversations and remind us all of the beauty, dignity and creativity within every person.”

Items handmade by residents, including gemstone bracelets, silk scarves, greeting cards and hand-poured candles will remain available, along with art prints and original works for purchase.

“Our goal at goose + co. is simple: bring great food, coffee and art together in a place that builds community,” Massey said. “We may have fresh feathers, but the food you love, your favorite coffee and the mission behind every purchase remain the same.”
