Made by Me: Meraki Scarves

At Holy Angels, beauty isn’t just seen—it’s felt. You’ll find it in the laughter that fills an art room, in hands pulling paint across “magic water,” and in the quiet pride of a resident seeing their silk scarf come to life.

Each Meraki Scarf is a one-of-a-kind creation, hand-designed by Holy Angels residents using a centuries-old water marbling technique. Residents choose their favorite colors—sometimes bold and bright, sometimes soft and seasonal—and use combs, styluses and brushes to swirl paint into mesmerizing patterns before revealing their masterpiece. It’s more than art; it’s a sensory-rich, confidence-building experience, and a powerful expression of their personality and ability.

During a recent a scarf-making session, Torrance smiled proudly as he layered green, orange and deep turquoise. “It looks like peacock feathers,” he said. “I like it because it’s beautiful.”

You can find these scarves on display for purchase at Bliss Gallery and Market on Main—the storefront of the Holy Angels Life Choices day program.
