Crowd Rises for Standing Ovation After Heartfelt Handbell Performance

This spring, the Holy Angels Handbell Choir captivated the hearts of nearly 500 music therapists from across the country as they took the stage at the annual conference of the Southeast Region Chapter of the American Music Therapy Association (SER-AMTA).

During their 30-minute set, 14 Holy Angels musicians poured their passion into handbells, singing and instrumental performances, lighting up the room with energy, heart and joy. The residents took pride in choosing many of the songs themselves, filling the air with cherished favorites, including “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper, “Defying Gravity” from Wicked and “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga.

Resident Torrance was also celebrated as he performed joyful renditions of “Wild Thing” by The Troggs and “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show on acoustic guitar.

Led by Music Therapist Jessica Alberto, the performance was a beautiful reflection of the power of creative arts at Holy Angels. Music therapy helps residents express themselves, build confidence and discover their musical talents.

The choir’s performance moved the audience to a standing ovation—a fitting celebration of the talent, creativity and unwavering spirit of our residents.
